“ESCAPE” A Camping Getaway for Neighborhood Youth @ Vedauwoo, Wyoming
Jun 21 – Jun 23 all-day

Escape is the annual camping trip for Neighborhood Youth. This is our big camping trip as a group. It is a trip that we do annually and would love for your student to be a part of it. We will be going to Vedauwoo, Wyoming, which is located just off I-80 west of Cheyenne. This trip is a great chance for your kid to get away from their daily lives in suburban Arvada and really experience Chirst in the mountains. It is also a great chance for your kid to have a weekend to hang out with their friends and meet new kids. We will be doing various activities like capture the flag in the woods, hike/explore, sit around a campfire, climb, hang out and much more. The cost of Escape is $50, and that cost covers all the expenses of the trip. It pays for food  for the weekend (except lunch on the 21st / stopping on the way / please give your child a few extra dollars for snacks and fast food). It helps pay for the registration on the camping sites, and it pays for travel costs.

SERVE DAY @ Sun Valley Youth Center
Jun 24 @ 9:30 pm – 11:30 pm

SERVING NEIGHBORHOODS TOGETHER
Sunday, June 24th | 9:30-11:30 am
WHAT IS SERVE DAY?

Serve Day is what happens when we relocate our Sunday worship gathering for one Sunday to join God and His work
in a local neighborhood.

On June 24th we will meet at Sun Valley Youth Center in Denver to serve the Sun Valley Youth Center and surrounding families.

Location:
Sun Valley Youth Center
1230 Decatur St, Denver, CO 80204

WHAT IS SUN VALLEY YOUTH CENTER?

Sun Valley Youth Center is an organization committed to giving one of Denver’s most underprivileged neighborhoods a hope for the future.  With a focus on transforming the lives of at-risk youth in this low-income, public housing neighborhood, Sun Valley Youth Center provides: day care, after-school care, youth development, mentoring and life essentials programs to help raise up the neighborhood’s youth.

They have seen astonishing transformations in kids over the 14 years of serving the Sun Valley community.  Their desire is to inspire even greater change in the years to come. We are simply coming alongside their ministry and making their day by doing a few simple projects.

Learn More
WHAT WILL WE BE DOING?

  • A FARMERS MARKET to Sun Valley families.
  • A WORK PROJECT to beautify the property.
  • A CHILDREN’S ART PROJECT from our kids to their kids.

Our Tin Shed Food Panty ministry will be setting up a free farmers market in the parking lot for the families of Sun Valley Youth Center and the local neighborhood.

We will also be doing a work project to help beautify the property of Sun Valley Youth Center. This will include weeding, sweeping, and cleaning up anything that needs a little TLC.

If you have kids, bring them and sign them up for the sidewalk art project that will be sponsored by our Neighborhood Kids Ministry.

We will also be collecting what we call our Blood and Thunder Offering over the next couple weeks as a gift to Sun Valley and their budget. This is an gift offering above our normal tithe. Our tithe helps keep the ministry of NFC going from week to week, our gift offering is therefore a blessing to Sun Valley Youth Center.

Every dollar blesses. Every person that serves becomes blessed. Together we can do more!

HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?

There are a few ways to give your time talent and resources to NEIGHBORHOOD FRIENDS SERVE DAY. There are projects for every age and skill level.

Although you don’t have to sign-up, we encourage you to let us know you are coming so we know how many people to expect!

QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT BE ASKING

Why are we doing this?
Simple answer . . . the mission. We are a community of Christ followers to choose to live generously inside and out toe bring the love of God to the heart of our neighborhood. We are wanting to show a neighborhood ministry that is doing incredible work to restore and revitalize children’s lives by giving them a safe place to learn and develop skills that will help them become amazing young followers of Jesus. We can’t do everything but we can do something. This Serve Day is simply our way of loving the mission of Sun Valley Youth Center. We are trusting God with what only God can do and living by faith to do what only we can do.

The goal is to bring the love of God to the heart of Sun Valley by bringing them some amazing food and helping beautify their property.

How do I sign up?
In reality, you don’t have to sign-up, just show up and we will help you discover a role that fits you. However, signing up will help us know what we are working with. You can sign up through the “Sign Up To Serve” button above or fill out a “Sign Me Up” card on Sunday, June 17th at Neighborhood Friends indicating you want to help with Serve Day.

How can I give financially?
We are glad you asked. We are taking a “Blood and Thunder” gift offering this Sunday and into next week. This is a gift above and beyond your normal tithe and all the funds will go directly to Sun Valley Youth Center.

  • You can give by . . .
    • PERSONAL CHECK – write “Thunder” in the memo
    • MOBILE – text “amount + Thunder” to 84321 on your mobile phone.
    • CASH – give cash with a giving envelope on Sunday. Mark “Thunder” on envelope.
    • ONLINE – give at www.neighborhoodfriends.org/give  Please make sure you give to the “Thunder” Fund.

I’ve never done this—Where do I start?
Start by simply letting us know you will be there. The projects we are doing are very simple and managed by our amazing ministry leaders. Our Tin Shed Farmers Market is directed by Becky Goshorn. Our Work Crew will be directed by Doug Stooke and Bell Hee. Our children’s Sidewalk Art Project will be directed by our NKids Leadership and specifically, Rhonda Hinshaw.

  • Special Note: Bring work gloves, gardening tools like rakes, shovels, and lawn and leaf blowers if you are signing up for Work Crew.

What about kids? Should we bring them?
Absolutely bring them! This is a project that will involve the entire family. There will be a place for everyone to serve and feel blessed by doing so. Our kids will be sending love messages to Sun Valley by doing sidewalk art. If you have sidewalk chalk, bring it with you, the more we have the better!

Safety and Security
The neighborhood of Sun Valley is a beautiful neighborhood with families and children everywhere. However, we want to assure you that we will have our security team in place while we are serving. Our main objective of this is to keep our people all in one place and not wander where they shouldn’t be.

What about lunch?
We will be encouraging our church family to grab something after our project for a family picnic at NFC at 12:30. Bring lawn chairs and blankets.
